Passport Power Index · Changelog

Version history

Every change to the Polystate Passport Power Index methodology or destination weights is recorded here with the originating pull request. Quarterly reviews (January, April, July, October) and any out-of-cycle editorial updates both appear in this log.

v1.1

Major

Editorial pass complete; scoring revised

All 199 destinations rated against the published rubric. Dimension weights rebalanced to reflect the Polystate thesis; scoring formula revised to reward destination quality over destination count and to capture the cost of holding each passport.

  • Dimension weights: economy 25% / hub 15% / livability 15% / freedom 20% / base 25%.
  • Scoring formula: PPI = self_multiplier × Σ(access_weight × composite^1.5). The concavity exponent rewards quality destinations over mediocre ones; the self-multiplier captures the cost of holding a passport (citizenship-based taxation, exit taxes, capital controls) that pure destination access cannot see.
  • Resulting ordering differs from pure count-based indexes: Switzerland and Singapore tie at the top; Liechtenstein, Monaco, and UAE punch above their Henley rank; the US sits outside the top ten as a reflection of its worldwide taxation regime.

v1.0

Major

Methodology published

Initial release of the Polystate Passport Power Index methodology: five-dimension rubric, tier bands with anchor exemplars, reproducibility protocol, and editorial governance.

  • Methodology version 1.0 published at /passports/methodology.
  • Initial rubric with dimension weights 25/20/20/15/20 (superseded by v1.1).
  • Ranking served raw-count scoring pending v1.1 editorial pass.

The next scheduled review is 1 July 2026. Any out-of-cycle changes driven by material legal or policy developments (sanctions, tax-regime flips, capital controls) will appear here when they land.
